My guest this week is Cindy Skalicky. Cindy is the founder of On Point Communications, a boutique firm that helps global executives and their teams Master the Message. With a graduate degree in rhetorical techniques and persuasion, Cindy brings more than 25 years of experience developing, refining and delivering effective messages in the corporate, academic, and entrepreneurial worlds – including the virtual world.

In this episode, Cindy shares tips on how to make your online presence pop, advice for connecting with your audience, and guidance on what has and hasn’t changed as we’ve moved to a virtual reality. She also shares some really interesting advice on using slides at virtual meetings, which is different from what many of us have learned about in-person presentations.

My guest is Cheryl Benedict, author of The Wisdom of Transition.
Even when our career goes through a dramatic change, and even when this change is thrust upon us, we have the power to choose our path forward. Most important, we have the power to choose how we navigate that path.
It all starts with self-awareness and reflection. Cheryl compassionately reminds us that since change is the one constant we can count on, we should embrace it and celebrate our courage in doing so.

I’m excited to have Pooja Dang on my show again, this time to discuss *meaningful* productivity. You can visit her website, www.poojadang.com to learn more about her services, or contact her at hello@poojadang.com.
Following are the instructions for setting the iPhone “do not disturb” option Pooja mentioned during the call:
If you don’t want to receive calls from certain people or any calls at all, you can create a group and put the numbers there.

Block All Calls on Your iPhone Except Contacts

Open Settings > Do Not Disturb.
Tap Allow Calls From.
You have several options, but one is All Contacts.

For a couple of great books on how you can improve productivity for the things that matter, I highly recommend Cal Newport’s Deep Work and Gretchen Rubin’s Better Than Before.

In this very special episode, I interview my sister, Alice Woods, who set sail in the spring of 2011 on her 38’ boat, True Blue, with a small crew of mostly women on each leg of her journey around the world. This daring circumnavigation wasn’t just an adventure of physical endurance. It was an amazing testament of how we have the power to discover what we’re truly capable of, even while navigating tremendous grief. Alice and I hope you’ll find inspiration and a path to self-empowerment from her story. If you’d like to send Alice a note or questions, please feel free to send them to me, at emily@wordsofdistinction.net, and I’ll forward them to Alice, who will respond to you.
